DESCRIPTION

Grimaldi Line

Model of a vehicle transport ferry commissioned by the “Nuovi Cantieri Apuania” shipyard in Marina di Carrara in 1:150 scale.

The model was made entirely by hand with a wooden hull covered in fiberglass and wooden upper decks.

The hull was made entirely of wooden slats and frames, then covered with a very fine layer of canvas fiberglass to make the model unalterable over time.

All the handrails are photo-etched while the upper decks are made by milling machine.

The minor details were instead created one by one with meticulous skill, making each single component by hand.

All the color codes were provided to me by the construction site and were done with an airbrush so that when the work was completed, the model was exactly identical to the real thing.

You can admire the model created at the entrance to the large Fast Ferries in Genoa.

The Coraggio, the first unit of the class, was launched at the Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Marina di Carrara on 24 November 2006, being delivered to Aldo Grimaldi's Grimaldi Holding on 29 March of the following year. She was immediately chartered by Grandi Navi Veloci, who employed her on connections between Genoa, Valletta and Tunis and, later, between Palermo and Livorno.

The ship, currently in service, now flies the Lithuanian flag having been first chartered and then purchased by the DFDS company.

The model was created in 4 months.
